A Break for Mommyhood
“Running—like motherhood—like everything—isn’t something to perfect. It’s a continual lesson of how to be imperfect.”
Before I even get to the main point of this blog post—which will be my last for the next few weeks—I want to take a moment to express some gratitude. I know I did a big gratitude blog post over the holiday season, but I personally believe in a very harsh world, expressing thanks and appreciation for things that are meaningful to you is something that is often ignored or overlooked.
So with that being said, if you’re still reading these blogs (or if you just started), thank you.
Thank you for giving me a platform to express some thoughts as a runner and a coach, and for giving me feedback and helping contribute to some of these posts. And for those of you who have gone a step further and pledged commitments or liked/shared posts, thank you for helping to spread the word in a very chaotic world of running on social media. I love you all and
I appreciate you all, and if you have ideas for future blog posts, please let me know.
And I would absolutely be remiss in not expressing my sincere gratitude to my hardworking and incredible friend Chen, who is the technology and creative brains behind this operation. He was the one who originally pushed me to create a website and a space for me to post my blogs, and edits/creates graphics/posts/deals with me in a general sense of the world (and most importantly, puts up with me) week in and week out. Thank you, Chen!
I am currently writing this blog from my new home in Maine, preparing the house (and life in general) for the arrival of our baby boy next week! And with that being said, I am taking the next few months off for maternity leave and to enjoy some time with my family. And that includes blog posts/writing!
I’ll be stockpiling posts and ideas for my return, but would absolutely love your input. Have an idea for future blog posts or topics in running that you find particularly interesting—or triggering? Shoot me an email! I can always be reached at kjwcrunclub@gmail.com.
Some final thoughts for the next few weeks and start of summer running? Get out there and enjoy some sunshine on your miles. Don’t forget to hydrate. Getting frustrated with slower paces in the heat? Think of your runs as time on feet, and forget about the pace. Not having fun running? Cut your mileage back or take some time to rest and try some new ways to move.
Stop following unqualified influencers and “run coaches” who have no idea what they’re talking about. Stop comparing yourself to other runners. Celebrate every step of your training—even on the days where just putting on your running shoes was the biggest win of the day. Listen to your body. And last, but certainly not least, remember—forward is a pace.
See you all in a few weeks.
